NEW YORK STATE MUSEUM – PART-TIME JOBS – EDUCATION/YOUTH SERVICES
The New York State Museum has a variety of positions available within its nationally recognized after-school programs. If you enjoy working with children and would like the opportunity to share your experience with Albany city kids in an interactive, educational setting, please note the following openings. These positions are perfect for college students/graduates looking for experience in the fields of education, urban education, social work, natural sciences, psychology, museum education, etc.
MUSEUM CLUB TUTOR
The Museum Club tutor must be an energetic, organized individual who can oversee homework, monitor academic progress, tutor, communicate with parents and inspire an interactive “love for learning” for kids, ages 7-13. We are seeking a friendly, assertive, youth-oriented person to coordinate educational support services & activities.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 2:00-5:30pm. * Non-negotiable hours! Candidates MUST be available 5 days/week (except during Albany school holidays & vacations.)
Pays: $10/hr. (based on experience)
Qualifications: Ideally, undergrad senior or beyond. Candidates should have significant experience tutoring or working with kids in an educational setting.
MUSEUM CLUB PROJECT LEADERS
Project leaders design fun, thematic, interactive projects that encourage kids to explore educational concepts through hands-on activity in the Museum. Project leaders create monthly lesson plans and teach daily programs with the assistance of teen staff. Activities incorporate Museum themes and connect to school curricula. Applicants MUST have program development experience with children.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 3:00-5:00pm. * Non-negotiable hours! (Actual program time is 4:00-5:00 p.m. with an additional hour built into each day for program development and preparation.)
Pays: $13 – $15/hr. (based on experience)
Qualifications: Educators are usually Masters level individuals with teaching and curriculum development experience, although significant program development experience will be considered.
TEEN COORDINATOR/ASSISTANT YOUTH DIRECTOR
The Teen Coordinator (TC) is responsible for the organization and implementation of the Museum’s educational support program for teens. The TC works with the Director to interview, train, and place teens in mentorships & work opportunities throughout the NYS Museum. She/he is also responsible for scheduling and monitoring the academic and developmental needs of all students. The TC is also responsible for overseeing operations of both youth programs if the Director is unavailable. The job is fast-paced and the individual must monitor the safety of all students, observe the quality of programs and be able to provide informal counseling/coaching for students and families as needed.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 2:00-6:30pm (Non-negotiable hours); occasional weekends for community service events.
Pay rate: $15.00/hr.
Qualifications: Experience with teens is a must! Master’s level student with youth teaching/counseling experience, although applicants with undergrad work and significant teen experience will be considered.
