Computing and Information Technology job available at SUNY Geneseo

Computing & Information Technology is looking for an enthusiastic individual to be part of a team of three people who support SUNY Geneseo’s network infrastructure. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise to support the operation, security, and maintenance of a complex campus data and voice network infrastructure.

Responsibilities include: managing Cisco network switches and centrally-managed Cisco wireless access points, performing the installations, moves, adds, and changes of network ports/access points; maintaining inventory to provide timely and uninterrupted network service for a campus of 6,000 students, faculty and staff.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in related field and one to three years of full time experience with installing and managing network switches and centrally-managed wireless access point (preferably Cisco).

Additional required qualifications include: demonstrated proficiency working with VLANs, switches, signal analyzers, and diagnostic tools; TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VoIP, and other protocols; multiple operating systems, including Linux, OS X, or Windows; Microsoft Office products; installation/testing of copper and fiber based cabling; deploying/testing wireless in high density environments such as, libraries, lecture halls, and residence halls; ability to lift 50 lbs or more, reasonable mobility to run cables, install routers, switches and other devices; ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks, diagnose problems in a complex environment, work independently in a tight-knit team, and provide excellent communication and customer service.

Preferred Experience Qualifications: Experience conducting UFPO stakeouts, optimizing wireless access point deployment, Cisco VOIP, telephony, scripting/managing Linux systems (Perl, Python, shell), documenting network layouts/configuration.
